One Lovely Blog

I don’t usually find myself doing “bloggy” things (if that makes sense) like this, but when Sari from The Sweet Life nominated me for the “One Lovely Blog Award,” I thought, why not? Plus, to be 100% honest, I had nothing planned for today, so this came at a great time! 😉

[[Here’s the Deal]]

“The One Lovely Blog Award nominations are chosen by fellow bloggers for those newer and up-and-coming bloggers. The goal is to help give recognition and also to help the new blogger to reach more viewers. It also recognizes blogs that are considered to be “lovely” by the fellow bloggers who choose them. This award recognizes bloggers who share their story or thoughts in a beautiful manner to connect with viewers and followers. In order to “accept” the award the nominated blogger must complete five steps.

Steps to Accept the Award:
1. Thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog.
(My link:
2. List the rules and display the award logo in your post.
3. Add 7 facts about yourself.
4. Nominate other bloggers you want to know better.
5. Follow the person who nominated you on bloglovin’.”

[[7 Facts about Me – In true QB fashion, 6 are true and one is a lie….figure it out. :)]]

1. My dad is friends with Dave Prowse, who played the body (not the voice) of Darth Vader in the original Star Wars movies. He came to Bloomington, IN (where I went to college) one night for a film showing, and I had dinner with him.

2. A few years ago, I had a very painful experience with stepping on sea urchins in the Dominican.

3. Though I covet high fashion, I’ve never owned an expensive bag (ie: Kate Spade, Marc Jacobs), with the exception of a Coach Outlet bag I got as a gift one year.

4. I take pleasure in discussing, practicing, and correcting grammar. Also parallel structure (if you get this, then we can be best friends).

5. I drink close to a gallon of water every day.

6. Though I love nothing more than a steaming hot cup of coffee, if I have a choice, then I typically choose iced coffee, even when I lived through terribly blustery winters in the Midwest.

7. I’ve celebrated Groundhog’s in Punxsutawney, Pa. In fact, it’s where I got engaged on February 2, 2012!

Tidbits & Coming Attractions

I didn’t have a particular topic scheduled for today, so I thought I’d drop some tidbits on your as well as give you a sneak peek into what’s on the agenda this weekend.

1. I added quite a few new items to my Poshmark closet. Some of them I’ve worn on my blog, so if anything strikes your fancy, check out my closet, and feel free to make me an offer!

2. Does anyone watch American Horror Story? I’ve always been a fan, but was sort of let down with last season; however, I am LOVING this new season. I just watched the newest episode last night and had to cover my eyes and ears for a good portion, but I can’t get enough!

3. I got my 6th Fix from Stitch Fix today, and I kept two blouses, both from Collective Concepts: The Esten (mine is a gorgeous purple) and the Lydia. Can’t wait to wear them both!

[[Coming Attractions]]

1. We randomly decided to take a day trip to Half Moon Bay tomorrow. We don’t have much of a game plan other than maybe a winery and a brewery. Stay tuned!

2. On Sunday we have plans to drive up to Sonoma with a couple of friends. Again, we don’t have much of a plan. Typically we just pick a spot (Sonoma Country is huge) and then drive to 2-3 wineries close by. I may do a little research before we go, but the spontaneity is one of my favorite parts.

3. I was going to write a personal post about body image today, but I didn’t want to slap it together hastily, so I’ll work on that for next week.  In that post, I was going to bring up that I’m making changes come Monday. Throughout much of late summer/early fall, I was doing so well with eating right and working out hard every day in preparation for my Vegas trip. Then Vegas came and went and so did all my hard work. Now, with the holidays coming up, I just know that it’s only going to get worse, so I figured why not start NOW rather than wait til the New Year? I don’t want to give myself “free passes” to just gorge myself during the holidays. Nope.

photo (3)Seriously, dat cheesecake doe…sooo good!

So, even though I feel a little silly about this, I purchased a meal plan and a fit journal from Blogilates. I’m not sure why I feel so silly; I guess it just feels like something my teen-age self would do, buying a fit journal. Ha. 😛 Though I do get obsessive over documenting things, and I LOVE handwriting things, so it may just be perfect for me! We’ll see! I’ve also decided that instead of doing straight P90X or straight T25 or even following a hybrid calendar, I’m going to write my own plan each week, incorporating the Blogilates monthly calendar as well as my favorite weight lifting exercises and moves from my favorite programs I’ve done in the past. So, what does that mean for QB? Not much. I will definitely be writing about my journey; however, I don’t want inundate everyone with food and exercise talk if that’s not what you’re interested in, so I will most likely be doing weekly update posts. I like this idea for accountability’s sake. I’ll probably post more frequently on Instagram.

So there are some random tidbits from me as well as what to expect in the coming weeks! What about you? What are you up to this weekend? Any suggestions on fun things to do in Half Moon Bay??

All the Things 04 // Stars & Stripes

So there’s some holiday on Friday, eh? I don’t normally do too many holiday themed posts, but in keeping with the spirit of patriotism, I’ve curated some Fourth of July-esque pieces. Whether you want to shout your love for your country from the (purple) mountain tops or give off a more subtle vibe, here are some picks that scream (or politely state), “‘Merica!”

Chocolate and Wine

Did I get your attention with chocolate and wine?? Here are some pictures that have nothing to do with chocolate or wine. Those will come later.

Two weeks ago, we had dinner with an acquaintance of Brett’s who told us about a wine festival happening the following Saturday. How had we not heard of this? Pay a fee and get unlimited wine samples? We were sold.

So we spent a beautiful Saturday at Ghirardelli Square, sampling wines, eating from food trucks, and we even stopped for some pictures by the water. Perfect day. One which ended even more perfectly with a giant chocolate sundae. Here are some more pictures from our chocolate and wine day.

My First Giveaway!! (CLOSED)

photo1 (12)Let’s Be Friends: Instagram I Twitter I Pinterest I Facebook I Bloglovin I YouTube

Today I have a giveaway – my first one, in fact! And in true, weirdo QB fashion, my giveaway doesn’t consist of jewelry or designer jeans – I will be giving away a collection of items I have been curating since we left Indianapolis!

If you’ve been following our adventure on my other blog, then some of these things probably look familiar to you, as most of them are things I picked up along the way on our road trip from Indianapolis to San Francisco. So what are these seemingly random things?

Indianapolis, IN

1. Just Pop In! Hoosier Mama Bloody Mary popcorn – I was given a bunch of popcorn for the drive from the lovely ladies at Just Pop In!, a local shop in Indy. Really, they gave me way too much, and I have a lot left over. The Bloody Mary is my favorite flavor, so I’d like to give a bag away to share the (delicious) love!*

Kansas City, MO

2. Gates Bar-B-Q Sauce – This is apparently a Kansas City staple in BBQ…and isn’t that what you think of when you think of KC?

Wamego, KS

3. Oz Winery koozie – This was a cool little winery we stopped at after the Oz Museum.

4. Oz Museum pen – Really, if you haven’t watched the video of our trip to the Oz Museum, do yourself a favor and watch it. It was such a hilarious/fun/quirky place!

Somewhere in Colorado

5. “Handwoven” basket – The above video explains where I got this, why I say “somewhere in CO,” and why I say “handwoven.” I thought it was kind of cool and a cute little basket for rings, change, whatever you’d like something to hold your something in!

Salt Lake City, UT

6. Super Authentic “Good Karma” Candle – I don’t know why I bought this…I guess I liked the color, and it smells good! You’re sure to feel super ZEN if you light this.  😉

7. Pioneer Valley Apricot Chunky Pineapple “Fancy Jam” – This is from a Utah-based company that makes jams and jellies. I really just like that it’s called FANCY jam!

San Francisco, CA

8. Alcatraz Inmate Slang playing cards – To me, this was pretty much the most useful souvenir from Alcatraz (unless you want to pay $9 for a “psycho ward” flask). I mean, obviously…you can learn phrases like “ridge runner,” “life on the installment plan,” and “called on the carpet.” Want to know what those mean? Guess you’ll just have to win the cards! Or Google it.

9. La Boulange Orange Blossom Shortbread CookiesLa Boulange has quickly become one of my favorites here in SF, and these cookies are SO GOOD! When I first tried them, I ate almost a whole pack in one sitting (so much for watching my figure). (Oh, and if you’re like me, thinking they taste orange flavored, they don’t at all!)

10. Ghiradelli Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Almond bar – Yeah, yeah, you can get Ghiradelli anywhere, but THIS is a special Fisherman’s Wharf chocolate bar FROM Ghiradelli Square! Cool, right? Yah, whatever. Chocolate’s chocolate.

So what do you have to do to win all these AMAZING prizes that everyone will be surely jealous that you’ll own them?? Absolutely nothing! Wait, what? You heard me. The first entry is free with the chance to “earn” bonus entries! So what are you waiting on? Get to it. That chocolate’s not going to eat itself!**  I may even (more like probably will) throw in a few more extra goodies!  😉

No purchase necessary. Giveaway is only open to legal USA residents (sorry international friends!) and to those who are 18 and older. Giveaway is open from Tuesday, May 20 at 12:15am EST to Friday, May 27 at 11:59pm EST. First entry requires no action from entrant whatsoever; however, bonus entries may be “earned” by completing tasks outlined on the Rafflecopter page. All subsequent entries after the initial “freebie” entry will be checked to ensure the tasks were indeed completed. Failure to do so will result in disqualification. Winner will be randomly chosen via Rafflecopter and will be announced within 48 hours of giveaway ending. Winner will then have 48 hours to contact me via email or else another winner will be chosen. Prize will be shipped within one week (7 days) of winner contacting me.

*This popcorn was given to me a few weeks ago. It has been sealed ever since; however, I make no guarantees on its freshness. 🙂

**Unless I eat it first. Kiiiiiidding! 🙂

This was my Cinco de Mayo outfit, which I wore for tacos and margaritas (how unusual of me on May 5, huh?) at a little place called Mamacita. Located in the Marina district, Mamacita is such a cute, hip, little spot that I can see us returning to again. Actually, we really loved the Marina district in general, but I hear rent tends to be on the expensive side (as are all apartments in this city, but apparently more so in Marina). Alas, we may remain homeless for now, but at least I still have my shoes and lipstick. That’s all I need, right?

As I walked around town the morning of Easter Sunday, I saw so many girls in super cute pastel or lace dresses with beautiful floral heels and maybe a pretty headband. I, however, opted to fully embrace my future California residence and wear this, as Indy had beautiful warm weather on Easter.

Exciting Announcement: QB is Moving!

20140416-150057.jpgLet’s Be Friends:  Instagram  I  Twitter  I  Pinterest  I  Facebook  I  Bloglovin  I  YouTube

Crazy, right?? Brett’s been searching for a new job for awhile now, and we decided to just take a leap and look out of state. He applied to San Francisco on a whim and got it! The crazier part? We’re leaving in TWO weeks from today! So basically we have two weeks to pack up our lives, see all of our friends and family, and leave to head across the country. I’m equal parts excited and equal parts about to have a panic attack.

So starting April 30, we will be living in hotels for probably a month, as we have no place to live yet. Luckily, Brett works in the hospitality industry, so we will be able to live in his hotel for up to 30 days while we search for a home. So two people and a dog living in a tiny hotel room for a month. Weee!

Now onto the important part: how will this affect QB? It won’t! In fact, I hope this move will be a good thing for my blog. I think it’ll be refreshing for QB to have a change of scenery, and I’m hoping for more writing opportunities and/or just opportunities in general out west. In addition, I plan to take you all with us as we trek across the country, including a travel diary of sorts as well as daily vlogs on the road. In fact, I have created another blog for just that! Originally, I thought about just created a blog for friends and family to keep up with us, but I’m going to share on here as well. You can find our adventures over at www.bbandmac.wordpress, which, as of right now, has absolutely nothing on it, but check back soon!. I’ll be posting our journey on here as well.

So that’s all my news for now! I can’t wait for the next chapter of QB and life in general!

Do any of you live in San Francisco? California? Any Cali tips? Moving tips? Life tips? I’d love to hear any and all of the things because I haven’t been to San Francisco since I was a kid!

Shoe In

How do you dress for success? Do you dress for the job you want or the job you have? Are your shoes made for walking or climbing the ladder of success? Well, you know upward mobility is always on the mind of an avid blogger. This week we take the plunge into Spring and Summer trends, but not in the way of dressing down but more buttoning up. Does that mean we have work on the mind? Maybe. You’ll just have to see for yourself.

Quirky Britches was featured on a fellow Hoosier blog called Little Indiana. I love reading this blog because it features hidden gems of my home state, from quaint little restaurants to recipes and more! Every so often, Little Indiana features other Indiana bloggers and then posts weekly updates of those bloggers. It’s so cool to see all the talent in Indiana! Check me out here, and thanks to Jessica from Little Indiana for having me!
